About
Us...
It was in the summer of 1946, when we were all assembled in the
quadrangle of a sprawling and somewhat patched up edifice of the
Cavite High School (it is not a "National" high school then) to take
our entrance examination. We had just graduated from different
intermediate schools all over the province of Cavite and are about
to take the entrance exams. The exams were given to determine which
class each new student will be assigned to and the late Jose Cruz
came out on top. This day marked the beginning of the best years of
our lives in high school.
At
that time, students were beset in their studies by lack of books,
which is still scarce since the government's educational agencies
were still trying to recover from the ravages of the war. Libraries
were not fully functioning, television was still a dream, telephone
service were very poor and radio was the only medium of mass
communication. (Color photography was yet to be widely used so all
our class pictures are either in black and white or sepia toned.)
Enrollment at that time were less than 2000 compared to about 6500
or more now. Classes were packed to the hilt to offset the limited
number of classrooms. An average of 50 students were assigned to
each class. And there were not enough chairs or desks to go around.
These, and other obstacles did not hamper our progress nor our
studies. For the next four years, we just accepted this things in
stride and continue on to put forth our best and thrust Cavite High
to an enviable position in its quest for academic excellence,
vocational training competency and sports superiority in this part
of the Southern Tagalog Region.
